MV Agusta, the Italian manufacturer of motorcycles, was founded in 1945 as the branch of the Agusta aviation company established by Count Giovanni Agusta two decades earlier. His sons, Dominico and Vincenzo, decided to open the MV Agusta factory to save the jobs of the company's employees and meed the demand for an affordable means of transportation after the end of the Second World War. The first prototype, the Vespa 98, came out in 1945. Since the name was already taken and registered by Piaggio, the scooter manufacturer, it was reduced to just the number “98”.

In the 1950s, MV Agusta mostly produced small-displacement motorbikes with 125 cc or 150 cc engines, such as the Zefiro, Turismo Rapido, Pullman, and the Raid, and when the demand for such motorcycles declined, in the 1960s, the company started concentrating on the creation of larger-displacement bikes. It resulted in the introduction of 250 cc and 350 cc motorcycles. Later, the 600 cc four-cylinder model rolled off the assembly line that was eventually upgraded and transformed into the 750 cc Sport bike introduced in 1970. After the death of Domenico Agusta in 1971, the main guiding force of the company, MV Agusta started experiencing financial losses and eventually, the operations were closed in 1980.

The company was revived in 1997 when Cagiva acquired MV Agusta. The next year, the MV Agusta F4 model designed by Massimo Tamburini was launched. The F4 750 is powered by a liquid-cooled I4 four-stroke engine with 749.5 cc engine displacement. One of the most popular MV Agusta series of naked style bikes, called the Brutale, went into production in 2001. This range of motorcycles is equipped with either inline-three or inline-four 4-stroke motors of various capacities. Some of the most notable MV Agusta versions are the 750S, 910R, 910S, 1078RR, 990R, and 1090RR. In 2012, the Brutale 675, Brutale 800 3-cylinder models were unveiled. In 2005, the F4 1000 line was released featuring models powered by 998 cc and 1078 cc engines. The range includes such models as the Tamburini, Senna, F4 RR, and others.
